# Add transitions and effects

Open **Visual FX** in Studio to explore the available transitions, effects, and filters.

Use a transition to connect two moments. Use an effect or filter when it helps communicate the scene’s mood or focus.

## Apply and review

Choose the effect you want, then use the available apply action or drag it to the appropriate timeline item or boundary.

Check where the effect begins and ends. Play across the cut rather than judging it from a still frame.

Keep the first pass simple. A clean cut often works well; add a transition when it serves the story.

## Adjust the timing

Select the effect or transition on the timeline to review the controls available for it. Change the duration and placement, then play the section again.

When copying an effect, confirm that the copy appears on the intended item and at the intended time. Review each application before using an apply-to-all action.

Before export, check that effects do not obscure important text or create an unintended gap between scenes.
